Your first agent
What is inside one agent, what examples to gather, and why every new one starts in draft-only mode.
A specialist agent is one agent with one job. Its instructions, examples and rules live together in one place.
What is inside
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| The job | What the agent does, and what it must never claim. |
| Instructions | What it is told to do. Training changes this. |
| Examples | Real examples of the job. |
| Known mistakes | Ways it could go wrong. |
| Scoring guide | How good work is scored. |
| Quick check | A simple check on your computer, with no AI calls. |
Examples
Use real examples that show what good work looks like. Include tricky cases and mistakes you want to avoid. Spark tests changes on examples, with a separate hidden test as another check.
Draft-only
New agents start in draft-only mode. Nothing changes until you say so.
Write your first one
Use the New Agent flow in the app. Write:
- the job, and what it must never claim;
- a first set of instructions (they can be rough);
- real examples of the job, including tricky cases;
- a few known mistakes and a simple scoring guide.
Pick one job you do often, where mistakes cost something. Good first jobs share three things:
- You can show what good and bad look like.
- Mistakes cost something.
- The work repeats often enough to be worth training.
For ideas by audience, see Use cases.
Tips
- Use real examples. Invented examples teach invented lessons.
- Include tricky examples. They catch the mistakes that hurt most.
- Read results in context. Look at examples and reviewer feedback alongside scores.
